Young Justice #18
DC Comics (September, 2012)
“Monkey Business” WRITER: Greg Weisman ARTIST: Christopher Jones COLORIST: Zac Atkinson LETTERER: Dezi Sienty EDITOR: Sarah GaydosThe team is sent to Bwunda to track down the Brain and Mallah. What they find is Grodd and other super-apes enhanced by the Brain’s partner, the Ultra-Humanite. The team is captured except for Wolf, and Ms. Martian–whom Grodd asks for help!
What they got right: I like the team interaction, and while I wouldn’t have minded seeing Captain Marvel do something in this story (showing Geoff Johns how he SHOULD be written), I can see how having him in there would be an easy out for the heroes. He’s just there to help place the story in the show’s timeline.
What they got wrong: But isn’t that what all the dates are for? I suppose you can make the case that they need to bring fans up to speed on events, but it just feels like time better spent on the story.
Recommendation: Still the best superhero comic DC is producing, because it’s fun and actiony, yet serious when it needs to be without the dark, gory stuff–just the way I like my superhero stories.

You mean writing teen heroes as more than Dawson’s Creek ripoffs? You can do that?
