Godzilla #3
IDW Publishing (July, 2012)
Part 3 “This Time It’s Personal” WRITER: Duane Swierczynski ARTIST: Simon Gane COLORIST: Ronda Pattison LETTERER/CREATIVE CONSULTANT: Chris Mowry EDITOR: Bobby Curnow SELECTED COVER: Zack Howard (art) & Nelson Daniel (colorist)
Using the “headache beam” and an extinct volcano, the “Monster Kill Crew” is able to put Anguirus down and plans to charge $7billion to take down each monster. Urv gets his vengeance on Kumonga, and Clarie gets payback on Batra. Harrison doesn’t get his target monster, Rodan, who decides to make them the target!
What they got right: We get more into Boxer’s problem with Godzilla and the other (except Harrison) get the payback they wanted.
What they got wrong: That would be find with original creations, but the Toho kaiju? They’ve handled far worse than these four yahoos and come out unscathed. I’m just having trouble buying this story.
Recommendation: Some of you may disagree and that’s fine, but I can’t recommend this to anyone unless they like this kind of “action hero” and no interest in the Godzilla characters. This just feels way too wrong.
