Loves & Capes: What To Expect #1
IDW Publishing (August, 2012)
WRITER/ARTIST: Thomas F. Zahler EDITOR: Denton J. Tipton http://www.loveandcapes.comAt the end of the previous miniseries, Ever After, Abby learned she was pregnant. Now they have to worry about the new baby…especially since his or her father is the superpowered Crusader and how carrying a potential superbaby will affect Abby. Luckily their friends and a female version of their doctor from another dimension are there for them.
What they got right: As before the characters are real people in a superhero world, with all the humor and drama (although usually more humor) that comes with it. Also, Zahler has more guts than other writers by actually leading up to a superhero’s baby. They cover all the normal moments like baby names and what gender will the baby be, but also the super concerns like how hard will the baby kick. Every detail the writer could think of is covered.
What they got wrong: This series still doesn’t gives us enough hero vs. villain superbattles. I know that it’s not the point and I have nothing bad to say about it, but I wouldn’t mind a spin-off tale showing the Liberty League in action, if only to show other comic writers that you CAN balance superheroing with superfamilies.
Recommendation: Still one of my favorite comics and IDW is wrong not to make this an official ongoing. Give it a read.
WARNING: TODAY’S BEST SCENE NOMINATION IS FROM THE LAST PAGE OF THE COMIC

It’s always hard to choose just one moment, but the endings are usually the best shot.
