ComiCONN in photos

ComiCONN 2012 was a good show. It’s only the third year so while it’s no ConnectiCon it was still a fun experience. I got to meet a lot of comic creators I never expected to, which you will see in videos as soon as I can get to them. The photos, however, are ready to go.

Some other anecdotes from the convention:

• There are two things they need to work on with this con if they plan on sticking with this hotel. The big one is parking space. I don’t mind having to go to a different spot to park ordinarily, but inform people of alternate parking spaces. Also, the hotel itself needs to cordon off an area for people staying the night. I had to park over by the nearby Target store, then after the con get my car and put in in the hotel parking lot. Luckily my room was ready so I didn’t have to leave my stuff in the car.
• Although I probably could have gone home, maybe after sampling the pool and whirlpool to relax a bit. It was a short con and I thought the trip would be longer. Still, the Trumbull Marriott is a nice hotel outside of the TV not using local channels. I’m in Connecticut; why would I want to see the news and weather from New York? This may be the fault of the service they use, but they need to work on that. (As well as longer stairs at the whirlpool. I couldn’t see where they were as the rather large bruise on my leg can testify.)
• They really weren’t ready for the size of the crowd, which leads to my other complaint: the lack of room to move around. Granted my big messenger bag didn’t help any, but with some of the talent in the main hallway it was hard to get through to some of the rooms. People were talking to them, getting stuff or having stuff autographed, or just waiting for an opening to move to the next location.
• I lost my mic stand somewhere between the last two interviews. Me sad. 😦
• All that aside, they got some really good talent. With no panels I was able to get a lot of cool interviews. The people going were nice and I saw the staff trying to make sure the talent had water or anything else they needed.
• We didn’t get the Batmobiles or the Black Beauty because it was raining in New Jersey and apparently the cars had to be driven here. (I didn’t even know the Burton Batmobile was street legal.) I think you can guess why that was a problem with the 60’s car. Did it never rain in Gotham City?
• Remember how upset I was a bout missing Michael Gray because of the hurricane? Well, everyone missed him because the hurricane kept him from coming. With Shazam! coming out on DVD soon maybe he’ll make the trip next year to promote it?
• The morning after I was having breakfast when an older couple behind me were talking about the convention. Apparently the woman thought the “kids” should have been doing something more constructive like going to work. Making costumes and having fun? Using their imaginations and getting to meet their favorite writers and artists? None of that frivolous stuff for kids. They’re all supposed to be working and miserable when they aren’t in school. To my credit I didn’t tell her off and ruin breakfast for everyone.

I hope to get to the videos soon-ish. I’m still not done with ConnectiCon and since I don’t make money from these things I have to work for a living. However, if your around CT next year when ComiCONN comes around, consider going. It’s not the party ConnectiCon is but its still a good time. Just prepare to be a bit squashed.
