This is one of two comics I picked up at ComiCONN. At least I finally picked up something. Actually, this was given to me by the producers after I interviewed them. I really need to get caught up on convention videos.
Hero Envy #1 (of 3)
Reckless Sidekick (2010)
WRITER/LETTERER: Keith Gleason “Let There Be A Beginning!” PLOT: Keith Gleason & John Cimino ADDITIONAL DIALOGUE: Efrain Martinez BREAKDOWNS: John Cimino ARTIST: Tom Rebello “A Tale of the Devil” part 1 ARTIST: Rob Osborne LAYOUTS: John Cimino COLORIST: Jason May
Four geeks have been chosen by U-Toob The Pointer to save the Earth from the fate of Mexicanna Prime: forced to abandon geekdom. The threat is El Moco-Conpan, who has taken over the body of Vee Jay Tommy Swass. The good news is that four geek items have been infused with the power to stop him. The bad news is that they’re at a convention, and these four distract easy. We’re kind of screwed.
The second story is the spirit of a Mexican wrestler who lives in the head of one of the guys. I’d say “because it’s comics” but this is actually based on a webseries comedy. Not having seen the show doesn’t make the comic any less funny. The issue is mostly set-up, introducing the quartet of nutbars in the story, while still setting up the threat of El Moco-Conpan. We also understand that a Mexican wrestler exists in one guy’s head and while that story is done in a different art style, the story works.
The three issues are available at their webstore (with a new cover for issue #1) and it’s worth checking out if you come across it somewhere.
