Fox

In this short film by Jacob Wyatt, a young girl chases a fox who has stolen her train ticket. This animated tale features no dialog, and the girl has no face. So how well does it pull it off? Surprisingly well.

Where this piece works is in the music and the girl’s body language, to make up lacking a face to emote with. This fills in the emotions. Wyatt and his team are able to show when she’s happy, sad, and angry just by how she moves or stands. The fox in this piece doesn’t really show any emotions but he’s only the catalyst of events.

I assume the girl left the ticket there because of the artwork it’s now apart of, but I do wonder if she ever got where she’s going. Considering how far she followed him it would have been neat to see that she was near her intended destination, but that really isn’t the story they wanted to tell.

I do like films like this. They get the story across quick and easy but still leave you with a positive emotional response. And this time nobody lost an arm. Wyatt only has this one cartoon and a trailer on his Vimeo page but hopefully this isn’t the last work we’ll see from this guy and his team.
