Remembering 9/11
I have a request, although “audience participation” seldom seems to happen around here. I’ve seen plenty of tribute videos like the one you’ll see after the jump, because we shouldn’t forget the tragedy. We need to know that not all supervillains wear metal faceplates or mad scientist gear. However, I can’t seem to come across tributes to our reaction; how we came together as a nation.
Where I worked my boss set-up a food and water donation box for the workers and victims and I wish the town food bank donation box could have filled up that fast. It really did my heart good to see that kind of outpouring in front of me, as it did when the huge flood and the big hurricane took their share of destruction. I also heard on the news how people were putting aside differences long enough to support and help each other. Sure, that didn’t last, as our current political climate can attest. This leads to my request.
PLEASE do not forget the tragedy. Two of our biggest towers in arguably our most major metropolis, the seat of our defensive force (both us and our allies), and were it not for the sacrifice of a group of passengers the White House were all targeted by turning our passenger planes and the people in them into missiles, something we used to only see in Hollywood and comics–usually stopped by the heroes. We probably won’t see this story again for a long time. Any time you watch an old movie or period piece and see the towers folks seem to wince. I know every reviewer I watch seems to do that.
However, if today you found a tribute to the spirit of cooperation that took place, of how we put our social/political/spiritual views aside and simply accepted everyone as fellow human beings, please post it in the comments. President Obama and Candidate Mitt Romney both agreed to not air any of their usual attack ads, and any advocacy group who didn’t do the same and just said “here’s why you should vote FOR our guy instead of AGAINST the other guy” should be shunned by both men.
Just for one moment we were Americans all, except for the visitors who were still treated like sisters and brothers. We shouldn’t give up who we are, but yes, we can all try to get along. September 2001 was proof of that. And now this year’s chose tribute video, which was actually produced last year for the 10th year remembrance.
