Conscripted into working for Krang, the Neutrino scientist Honeycutt is not comfortable with Krang’s plans and doesn’t believe his lies. He takes his robot, a shapeshifting testing robot, and joins the underground. He will lose much, including his identity as he must escape to the Earth.
What they got right: I like the artwork on this one, although why change the robot from grey to gold? In the TV series we learned little about the Neutrinos. At one point I thought they were trying to stay out of their parents war with Krang’s forces but at another point they were actually the force against the Dimension X horde. Here they’ve been forced to work for Krang but a resistance movement has formed. The origin of the Fugitoid isn’t any better or worse than in the original comics…
What they got wrong: …with some minor exceptions. Why was Honeycutt’s robot, designed for scientific testing, could change into a Neutrino, and easily adapted to human form on Earth? The only test we see doesn’t require shapeshifting. I’m also not sure giving him a wife and kid was an issue since they didn’t really add a whole lot to the story that a friend trying to convince him to join the resistance couldn’t solve. He was pretty much against Krang at the beginning of the story. Also, this version appears to be missing the Federation and Triceritons. I don’t think we’ll miss the former, but I’d hate to lose the latter.
Recommendation: An excellent story and we’ll have to see what if any impact it has on the Turtles and their allies.
Mostly for the artwork. The scene doesn’t really affect the story.

Funny. I just reread the original. Hard to imagine why it would ever need to be retold.

It’s a brand new universe and they’ve changed almost everybody’s origins while keeping only the spirit of the originals. In Honeycutt’s case he’s still a scientist that the bad guys want to pick the brains of. The big changes come from Splinter, Shredder, and the Turtles but their personalities are pretty much still there.
