I know that this comic is the result of a Kickstarter, but is every issue going to be free? This isn’t a comic I would usually collect by my LCS, possibly because they know I do reviews, give them to me and they are free. How much longer will the Kickstarter alone fund this comic?
Stryker is having nightmares about one of his missions, where he was forced to kill a man in front of his wife and children…and then kill his wife and children! In the present, Ripclaw rescues the director’s daughter from her other kidnappers while the rogue faction kills his friends as well as his wife and son. (The faction lead by one of Stryker’s former teammates.) Finding one survivor, Ripclaw decides the only help they have is Stryker.
What they got right: I’m still unaware of “Cyber Force Continuity” so I don’t know how well these match previous continuity. However, I can see the makings of some decent characters here. How they follow up I can’t really say.
What they got wrong: On the other hand, killing Ripclaw’s wife and young son? Why? These two had potential to be interesting characters and–this would be a nice change from the way things go in comics lately–seeing him try to protect his family rather than avenge him would have made him a more interesting character to me. Instead, the family got fridged.
Recommendation: There must be something to this series with so many donators that they can not only produce the comic but do so for free–for however long that lasts. It’s worth taking a look at least, although no moment really stood out as “Best Scene” for me.
