Mikey decides to scope out the Christmas scene, and makes a new friend in a little kitty he names Klunk. The frivolity is ruined for the new friends when they come across thieves trying to steal the hot new toys, “L’il Orphan Aliens ™”. (Yes, you have to say it with the “™”.) What follows is the usual hilarity and ninja butt-kicking.

What they got right: Using Michaelangelo for the Christmas story was the way to go, as he’s probably the best Ninja Turtle to enjoy Christmas. The story is just a lot of fun.

What they got wrong: What kind of name is Klunk for a kitten? Really, Mikey?

Other notes: This is the first appearance of Klunk, Michaelangelo’s pet cat. This issue was also adapted into the second Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon episode of the same name. In the episode, the other Turtles and friends they’ve made in previous episodes are setting up for a Christmas party and the thieves are now members of the Purple Dragons.

Recommendation: A fun Christmas tale for Mikey’s classic one-shot and IDW’s coloring improves it. Pick up a copy if you find it.
