Darkblade finally chooses his new sidekick. (And sadly not the one I wanted. I wanted Dart, but they went with Dagger. That’s not a spoiler, its right on the first page.) With the baby on the way, Mark gets Major Might to sub for him if anything pops up, but the Major may not be who he seems. Since this is the last issue of this mini it should be no surprise that the baby is finally born.
What they got right: All the subplots for this mini wrap up nicely, plus new ideas for future minis, like how Darkblade will deal with a sidekick and beginning the next level of his relationship with Amazonia or the new direction for the bookstore. The one I’m most looking forward to is the Crusader as a father and Abby as a mother. Take that, Spider-Writers!
What they got wrong: I really wanted Dart. OK, that’s not really “wrong”. Maybe that we aren’t told what the “T” stands for. I can’t really say anything else without a major spoiler. Otherwise I just I can’t think of anything. This is a solid story. We even get the Crusader thinking about hanging it up in order to protect the baby, Quincy learning Mark is the Crusader, a nice moment with Zoe and Mrs. O’Lonergan..all those little moments that really flesh out the characters.
Recommendation: If you haven’t been collecting the individual issues the trade should be out soon. Pick this story up if you have any thought that a lighthearted sitcom about superheores can be fun. Just don’t let Hollywood screw it up!
If you want to know if they had a boy or a girl you’ll have to buy the comic.
