Transformers: Robots In Disguise #13

The best way to describe this without going farther into spoiler territory than I usually do is that chaos is reigning over Cybertron. Bumblebee and Metalhawk form a temporary alliance to try to end this threat. Megatron is using it to take advantage and Prowl makes a surprising move which I’ll be forced to explain in a moment, and Starscream is trapped in the middle not sure what he should be doing or where his loyalties lie.

What they got right: I kind of felt for Starscream here. He has the chance to put the Decepticons in power without the failed methods of Megatron, the methods that led to the damaging and evacuation of the planet. And yet he’s really unsure of what to do. This could be a good character-evolving moment for him if done right in this arc.

What they got wrong: On the other hand, do we really need Megatron in this series anymore? He just doesn’t seem to have a place in this continuity anymore and it does change the tone of the series considerably. Now granted I wasn’t happy with the whole political intrigue stuff, but this just doesn’t feel right to me, especially in the Best Scene nomination below where we see Prowl standing with the Decepticons holding Wheeljack prisoner. Please tell me this isn’t the real Prowl because I find it easier to believe Grimlock switching to the ‘Cons than Prowl based on their personal philosophies.

Recommendation: Previous series have broken out potential Starscream redemption stories before losing the license (Marvel) or shutting down (Dreamwave) in the past, so hopefully IDW will succeed at this because I’d like to see it. Either way I’m at least curious about how this will go down. Worth a look for that I guess.
