Chapter by Chapter features me reading one chapter of the selected book at the time and reviewing it as if I were a reviewing an episode of a TV show or an issue of a comic. There will be spoilers if you haven’t read to the point I have, and if you’ve read further I ask that you don’t spoil anything further into the book. Think of it as read-along book club.
It’s so hard lately for me to get time to write a really big article. I either have no real time before I go to work or I’m too tired after work. Still, I want to do more than article links so let’s check in with our favorite horn toad, shall we?
Last time was the process of getting Quaid set for his fake trip to Mars. It’s as exciting at it sounds but I think that’s it for the set-up. It’s time for fan to take on that odor.
Chapter 7: Problem
The chapter starts innocently enough. McClane, the salesman from earlier, is trying to convince Mrs. Killdeer (I only mention her name because it amuses me) that “we can remember it for you wholesale“. That’s an actual quote, as well as the title of the Philip K. Dick short story that is the basis for the original movie. (I wonder if the remake even credited it?) Then he’s interrupted by a call that Quaid is suffering a schizoid embolism. Say good bye to Mrs. Killdeer. She’ll just try to experience the actual whatever I think.
I was wrong about the end of set-up, by the way. Quaid goes on and on about the Agency, which is the type of organization the New 52 is addicted to these days. There’s a lot more swearing in this chapter than there has been thus far, as the Recall staff tries to figure out how to get rid of them and hide their tracks (or rather Quaid’s) before they end up with a critical case of dead. Trust me, it feels like more when you read it than when I try to give a brief synopsis.
Well, it’s nice to finally get the plot going I guess but not much else to say here.
