A mysterious person looks over pictures of the various incarnations of the Doctor and their traveling companions, plotting against the Time Lords. Then the story focuses on his original self as he takes Ian, Barbra, and Vicki to meet his old friend, biologist Doctor Thomas Huxley. Soon the crew are involved in finding missing students, which turn out to be caused by Anamus and the Zarbi, seeking revenge on their hero. But how did they get here….and what happened to Doctor’s friends?

What they got right: I like the concept of a story that features all the Doctors, especially for Doctor Who‘s 50 year anniversary. I think this is also the first time Vicki has been used in any comic story. The Zarbi benefit from being in a comic. I would have put “how can the Zarbi and Anamus be on Earth when the former has no space travel and the latter is dead” but apparently that’s part of the mystery.

What they got wrong: I’ve heard some commentators say that this felt more like a New Who but that doesn’t surprise me. Still, the First Doctor shouldn’t have any famous friends. He didn’t travel enough yet,  and it wasn’t until Ian and Barbra that he started making friends with Earthlings. Also, it doesn’t matter if they used Viki or Susan because the ladies do nothing whatsoever in this story. (So much for resembling New Who, where the women tend to be the ones beating up monsters.)

Recommendation: Just for concept this should be looked into, but it was a decent story. I’m thinking this one is going to be for the Whovians, although I recommend checking out classic Who as well.
