Sonic Universe #50

Studying Shard’s battle with his latest Mecha Sonic, Eggman tries a new programming trick to give Mecha Sonic intelligence while keeping him loyal. This leads to a battle between the two robotic hedgehogs and only one will come out standing.
The issue also includes the Sonic/Mecha Sonic race scene finale from Sonic The Hedgehog #25
No Best Scene nomination and no “got wrong” because the comic was just that darn good. The fights between Mecha Sonic current and former were great not only for the fight itself but Shard trying to find a conscience in his decedent. He also seems to have a little crush on Nicole who at least enjoys the company of another AI. I want to see that relationship develop. Eggman also seems to be learning, seeing what worked and what doesn’t and adjusting his plans rather than scrapping them and coming up with whole new plans. That’s rare for a villain in an all-ages or kid comic. We also see Sonic trying form an opinion of Shard and a reminder that Antoine still exists.
Recommendation: This was a great comic and Shard is quickly becoming my favorite Secret Freedom Fighter and I want to see him hang around for a long time to come. (I know you hear me now and then, Mr. Kaminski.) As a filler story to prepare for the Mega Man crossover it was perfect. (There’s also a teaser to the event.) I very much recommend this issue.
