After confirmation that our young heroine…whose name I can’t remember but based on her skin color and superspeed powers I’m just going to call New Velocity for now…is Stryker’s kid he takes our heroes to his place. Which gets blown up during an attack by CDI’s forces, but our group escapes thanks to a bullet-warning by Aphrodite. They take refuge in another place where they learn about a plan by the director to continue his apocalypse plan and prepare to take him down. But what is the director’s wife…and Stryker’s ex…planning?

What they got right: This could have been a overly serious gorefest but it isn’t. It’s still not kid-friendly and I’m not sure it could be, but that’s never a strike against a story, even here at the Spotlight. The characters have thought-out personalities that makes them interesting. While I still don’t know a lot of the backstory I do find myself getting interested in these character, especially New Velocity.

What they got wrong: It’s like there was an edict stating every character must get at least one swear in this comic. I’m no prude except in my own work but after awhile you notice a trend. Most unnecessary is the officer who, to prove he’s evil, says that because he didn’t get the cake he wanted he was going to return to the diner, kill the waitress’ co-workers, and rape her on top of their corpses. I think rape as a story element can be done well but it has been done so poorly in the past, and that includes here, that any thought of getting the right emotion out of it instead of “this again!” is unlikely. That’s too bad, because the badass moments elsewhere in the comic really came off as intended, especially the warning “run” in bullet holes on a wall.

Recommendation: It’s not like you have to buy the comic and it’s getting me interested. Give it a look.

I officially have a favorite character.
