The Fourth Doctor, Leela, and K-9 head to visit an old friend of the Doctor’s in hopes of getting a good meal. What they get is the Judoon, hunting for a stolen jewel, and says, but who stole it in the first place? And the “Companion Kidnapper” is back, too. (I’m still betting he’s The Valeyard.)
What they got right: K-9! YAY! Interesting that they went with Leela, but I guess they’re saving Tegan and the gang for the 5th Doctor and we did get Romana in The Forgotten.
What they got wrong: The Doctor didn’t do anything. Really, Outside of encouraging Vox and Frez to bypassing the Judoon they mistakenly called in he doesn’t do anything. Cilia knew Roget took the jewel and says so by page six. The only twist is why he took it and the Doctor had no influence in that, either. Leela and K-9 got to “have fun” with the Judoon but the Doctor was a non-character in his own story.
Recommendation: It’s still a fun story, even if the Fourth Doctor deserved better. Give it a read.
