Transformers: More Than Meets The Eye #16
IDW Publishing (April, 2013)
“The Gloaming” (I looked it up. That’s an actual word.) WRITER: James Roberts ARTIST: Agustin Padill INKER: Jose Aviles COLORIST: Josh Burcham SELECTED COVER ART: Nick Roche (artist) and Priscilla Tramontano (colorist) LETTERER: Tom B. Long ASSISTANT EDITORS: Toni Korde & Mariel Romero EDITOR: John Barber
As Ultra Magnus lays dieing the other survivors morn their loss in their own way. But is one of their own in bigger trouble than Ultra Mangus…who has now disappeared? And who will become the scapegoat for letting Overlord aboard the ship?
What they got right: After the slaughter of last issue, a morning issue is kind of necessary and you actually feel for some of the guys. Chromedome gets some character development…
What they got wrong: …but I’m not sure it makes him a decent bot. Still, he comes off better than Rodimus, who is kind of a jerk. Back to Chromedome and Rewind, they’re relationship brings a lot of questions to a supposedly genderless race, as other writers have insisted on. It makes what happened to Arcee even worse, since romance does exist if that’s what Roberts is trying to hint.
Recommendation: It’s a decent follow-up to the previous issue, but beyond that there’s nothing to recommend, depending how Ultra Magnus and the other two’s story arcs go.
No Best Scene on this one.
