DC logo examples

I was planning to have a BW Panelling today but I need to make a last-minute addition, so it’s going to take a bit longer. Shooting for Thursday. In it’s place is an interesting read I was going to save for later.

A lot of discussion is going on lately as to who gets royalties from what creation. I know at least for Doctor Who the BBC has to get approval to use some of their classic characters like the Daleks and Sontarans from the people who created them for the show or the estate. It works differently here, especially if your under work-for-hire. This is why Len Wein isn’t doing as well as fans think he should and why the estates for Jerry Seigel, Joe Shuster, and Jack Kirby continue their late relative’s fight. Comic writer Mark Waid wrote a piece on his site detailing how the system works, how Paul Levitz went above and beyond what was required and why others not following his example isn’t necessary good or bad, it just is. Note that there are spoilers for Man Of Steel since elements appeared in other DC productions (mostly comics) and they used as examples.

I think it’s a must read for creators and their fans.
