The first tale follows what happens in Superman’s head during his day-to-day superheroics. But who is the strange guy who shows up everywhere he does–even in the Fortress of Solitude!–and how does he make Superman doubt himself? The resolution is decent but could have used a bit more time to see how the man’s conclusions are reached.
The second tale is my favorite as it’s just a fun story, another “day in Superman’s life” tale. Clark and Lois have a bet that a dog show can be newsworthy. But the “slow news day” quickly turns into a busy day for Superman. It fits a short story format better than the first one and was just fun.
The last one…I’m not really sure what to make of it. A time traveler seeks Superman’s help in rescuing a Kryptonian child from a time-traveling descendant of Luthor’s who gets caught up with a modern-day space tyrant who wants to use the baby to conquer the universe. I think it’s suggesting that the baby is Kal-El himself and the time traveler regretted his actions as brought up by his father. Thinking about it makes my head hurt as many time travel stories like this do.
Overall, another good collection, especially for the second tale. Worth getting either digitally in pieces or together in this printing.
