Transformers Prime: Beast Hunters #3
IDW Publishing (July, 2013)
STORY: Mike Johnson & Mairghread Scott WRITER: Mike Johnson ARTIST: Augstin Padilla COLORIST: Priscilla Tramotano SELECTED COVER ART: Ken Christiansen LETTERER: Tom B. Long EDITOR: Carlos Guzman
Grimlock and Swoop find a group of Forged guarding a mysterious chamber and Swoop’s lack of self control may get the pair in trouble. Meanwhile, Sludge and Snarl are helping Firestar get Last Spark going and gain themselves a fan.
What they got right: As a Swoop fan I do like seeing him get a focus story, even when shared with Grimlock, partly because this is the first comics Grimlock I don’t hate. Best Scene is a spoiler that is cool and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
What they got wrong: Fanboy Zoom. You just know this kid is going to either get on readers’ nerves (I make no judgement based on this issue) or is going to end up cannon fodder as a “cruel lesson” to Sludge and Snarl. And what happened to Slag Slug? He doesn’t appear at all in this story.
Recommendation: Still the only current Transformers title I wholeheartedly approve of. Don’t let me down, Beast Hunters.
WARNING: The following Best Scene nomination is a big spoiler for the issue but when you see it you’ll realize it had to be here.

I would have used the shot where Grimlock transforms to confront this guy but this was a more dramatic shot.
