Doctor Who Prisoners of Time #7

I’m not the only one who thinks that’s the Rani in the corner, right? She’s not in the comic.

The Seventh Doctor and Ace are drawn to an old castle where someone is draining the lifeforce of some locals. That someone is the Master and those locals aren’t so local.

What they got right: While it’s too bad Mel won’t be getting a comic appearance ever, you kind of HAD to go with Ace. She’s the most popular of the two Companions of #7. And yes, she brought her Nitro0 and got to both be a “good girl” and slip in a “Professor”. (Not to be confused with the other Professor.) The Master returns and this time his plan is evil and he’s working with the Companion Kidnapper.

What they got wrong: Sure, the Master gets a better showing here. But cover teased the Rani and I would have really liked to have seen her in the comic. She’s a great villain and deserves more appearances that she’s gotten. And the Master seems to hint that the main villain of this maxiseries is a former Companion. If they’re going to do with Adric what the live-action Scooby-Doo movie did with Scrappy-Doo I’m writing a full rant article.

Recommendation: An improvement over the previous story since the Master actually does something and that makes it a decent story. Just not all that spectacular. Still worth a look.

The Master does make a good entrance. Unless your the Seventh Doctor. He doesn't impress easily.
