Starscream is now where he always wanted to be..ruler of Cybertron. But he can’t stop lying and manipulating events to suit his needs, regardless of who gets falsely accused…or killed. But one of his supporters isn’t so dead.
What they got right: We get a look into Starscream’s mind as he tries to defend his own actions to himself. He’s so convinced he’s right that he’ll trick others into believing it so long as they believe it. Also, they brought in Rattrap, and for the most part he’s in line with his previous characterization in Beast Wars. They even try to explain his bestial alt mode.
What they got wrong: Too bad he’s working for Starscream, and is willing to frame an innocent without Starscream even asking him to. I’m not happy with this version of Rattrap, who happens to be my favorite Maximal.
Recommendation: At the very least it’s the better of the two IDWverse comics. If you only get one Transformers comic this company puts out…make it Transformers Prime: Beast Hunters. But if you get two…go with this Monstrosities. This would be the only other one I would suggest, though.
You were expecting a Rattrap moment, weren’t you?
