In the first story, which I think is a conclusion to a storyline started in the regular title, Arize convinces the current X-Force team to return to Mojoworld because Shatterstar’s rule has become as tyrannical as the previous Mojos, mostly due to the humans he is in league with. In fact, Shatterstar is questioning the actions of the Freeman Armed Network Garrison, who are now treating the “spineless” as badly as they used to treat the humans. In the end, Arize, Shatterstar, and the X-Force take down the Garrison and the new way that was supposed to be established may yet happen. I haven’t read the first 3 chapters, but I do like how this finished.
The second story features the three kids Wiz Kid, Artie, and Leech. Taki (Wiz Kid) has a crush on the academy’s director but something is off about her new boyfriend. It turns out to be more than jealousy as he’s part of an anti-mutant group. It’s a neat little story but nothing spectacular and a plot we’ve seen plenty of times.
The last story is the worst of the lot. It’s not only convinced me that my problem with the previous comic I reviewed wasn’t just the bad artwork, which shows up again, it’s Cable. While he had a point he’s also a jerk, and that was demonstrated in the first story as well, as his actions didn’t make the Garrison into good guys. It’s just Cable going through the list of X-Force’s enemies in what appears to be a flashback story. That’s not only kind of pointless because their threats may have changed, but when he tries to add the X-Men to the list he loses points with the others. Easily the weakest story and I think the comic would have been better without it.
Two out of three isn’t bad, and this was a good read. I may hold onto this one.
