Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #27
IDW Publishing (October, 2013)
“City Fall” part 5 STORY: Kevin Eastman, Bobby Curnow, & Tom Waltz WRITER: Tom Waltz ARTIST: Mateus Santolouco (including selected cover) COLORIST: Ronda Pattison LETTERER: Shawn Lee EDITOR: Bobby Curnow
Working with his pizza pal, Mikey learns about the Shredder holding a meeting off all the other gangs in New York, where he holds a public execution of the Savate leader. This hist Leonardo, whose visions of his mother is trying to talk him into leaving the Foot clan. Before that the Turtles grab their new gear and allies and head for the meeting while Casey checks himself out of the hospital to confront the new leader of the Purple Dragons who calls himself “Hun”, but is actually Casey’s dad! (I missed the Villains Micro-Series where he took over.) The Turtles go to rescue their now confused brother, only to find Curai blocking their escape with two new mutants, Bebop and Rocksteady! (That issue of Villains is in my folder at the comic store.)
What they got right: The action, the art, Casey finally confronting his father (which I hope to see more off next issue), the curious conversation between Kitsune and Alopex…this is a great penultimate chapter of this story arc.
What they got wrong: I really have no complaints.
Recommendation: This is one of the comics I want to keep following. It’s still a good remake of the franchise.
