Being one of those who missed the sold out issue #1 I don’t know what happened in the previous issue. Luckily I don’t think it’s necessary since we get clued in on Fox’s story and the Shield starts a new arc this issue.
The Fox ends up on a raft in another dimension. As we learn, a woman from this world has gone to Earth to find someone who can stop a villain calling himself Druid, who has taken over and has turned both her husband and other heroes she sent into monsters. Fox is armed with a staff that is able to undo the curse placed on one hero, but is he ready for what he’ll see next?
What they got right: The story was a lot of fun, and for newcomers (and with #1 selling out this was a bigger benefit than they may have intended) it was easy to catch up with the important aspects of his characters, including Paul Patton (Fox’s real identity) being the father of New Crusaders’ new Fly-Girl. Fox’s narration is a big help.
What they got wrong: On the inside cover, the start of the story, and the back cover is the same blurb for why Paul Patton became the Fox. Yes, we get it, comic.
In the second story, the Shield and Dusty are at a bar when conversation leads to a flashback, as a younger Shield during World War 2 investigates reports of a strange power source and encounters instead monsters and his Nazi and Japanese counterparts.
What they got right: I do like the idea that other countries in World War 2 created their own “super soldiers”. I wonder if we’ll see others in the Allies as well as other Axis countries?
What they got wrong: I also wonder if we’ll ever see the Shield battle foes in modern times without the New Crusaders?
Recommendation: I’m so happy to find a superhero comic I can quickly promote. This comic was a lot of fun and I hope to be able to read more of it.
