I forgot to mention in yesterday’s new comic review that I only picked up four comics for this week so there won’t be any more new comic reviews until Monday.

Bio-Booster Armor Guyver V2

I can’t find a half-way decent joke for this one.

Bio-Booster Armor Guyver: Revenge Of Chronos

Viz (June, 1995)

(contains the second half of Bio-Booster Armor Guyver)

WRITER/ARTIST: Yoshiki Takaya
ENGLISH ADAPTATION: Fred Burke & Toshifumi Yoshida
TOUCH-UP ART/LETTERER: Bill Spicer
COVER DESIGN: Viz Graphics
ASSISTANT EDITOR: Toshifumi Yoshida
EDITOR: Annette Roman

Sho’s life gets harder, between fighting doppelgangers and Mizuki finding out the truth. however a reporter (who is hiding something) also informs our hero that Agito is a member of Chronos and Gyro discovers he is Guyver 3. Meanwhile, Chronos captures everyone close to Sho, including the father that was mentioned once in the last GN and only now shows up in the final chapter. Glad he was so important.

The second volume still has one-shot battles but it feels more like you’d expect from a Japanese manga. The subplot with Agito comes into play and Mizuki would have only stayed out of the “hijinks” if wacky circumstances happened that would be out of place in a more serious story like Bio-Booster Armor Guyver. Her brother and his best friend, as well as the guy she’s crushing on are both involved in the affairs of Chronos whether they want to or not and Agito has been using Mizuki to sneakily get Sho to do what he wants, and get revenge on Chronos. Meanwhile, Chronos wants their own revenge and they don’t care who they have to use. Sho and his friends are the only victims here.

Then there’s the new character introduced in chapter 5 (chapter 11 of the individual comics), Masaki Murakami. He says he’s a reporter but he also has the powers of a Zoalord. So who is he and what’s his agenda? That’s for future installments. The next GN, which we’ll review next week, collects the next series of comics, “part 2”, and will solve more questions as everyone heads to Relics Point, where the Guyver units were first found.

While still not a read for the kids, I’m still enjoying this story and it’s worth picking up. I put a link above (Amazon Affiliate Link) and it goes for surprisingly cheap.
