Adventures Of Superman #8

“No kidding. Really? Hadn’t noticed.”

Adventures Of Superman #8

DC Comics (February, 2014)

“Tears For Krypton”
WRITER: Marc Guggenheim
PENCILER: joe Bennett
INKER: Belardino Brabo
COLORIST: Jason Wright
LETTERER: Wes Abbott
EDITOR: Alex Antone
“SUPERMAN” CREATORS: Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster

As Superman takes on Titano, a Dr. Emil Hamilton visits the Planet with news that he found Krypton still in existence. Superman rushes there and sees not only is his planet still in one piece but his father is alive, in prison for causing a panic. But things are not as they seem.

What they got right: I initially passed this one up because the “Krypton isn’t dead” storyline’s been done before and only once was close to interesting. But I leafed through it and saw the twist (at least part of it so I wasn’t completely spoiled) and it convinced me to pick it up. It’s well done, and the art is great. It also shows that Superman can use his brain and figure things out.

What they got wrong: I know that this series has nothing resembling continuity but why make this Emil’s first appearance instead of establishing him as Superman’s friend already?

Recommendation: A rather good Superman story, something the New 52 isn’t equipped to bring us.

Adventures Of Superman #8 Best Scene

It’s not a Superman continuity until Superman fights a Kryptonite-powered gorilla.
