We have another trailer out for Legendary’s Godzilla movie. So it’s nice to see they’re promoting it finally. So how does it look?
I’m just going to say it…this looks boring. I’m hoping it’s the trailer or some mood I’m in, but this was boring. I want to see a movie about monsters fighting either each other or the military. Instead we’re getting military cover-ups, government cover-ups..yes, let’s not tell people a GIANT MONSTER JUST TRASHED NEW YORK! And they think nobody is going to talk? Or have video? It’s the same silliness I was expected to believe in the Transformers sequels. Are we still learning the wrong lessons from Michael Bay?
And that scene with the guy being left behind while some woman was crying. Was the shelter too full so the lovers have been separated? Admittedly it’s a cliché that hasn’t come up in a while, at least in something I’ve seen, and there’s good reason for that.
We get glimpses of Godzilla but nothing concrete. It’s less annoying than the Emmerich trailers and maybe what we get is to prove that they’re at least attempting to make something that looks like Godzilla while still declaring that CG is better than a costume. I’ll give it that. Still, it’s all an attempt to redo the original movie without a) realizing what was good about it and b) not realizing the franchise outgrew the first one.
So no, this trailer isn’t getting me excited for the new movie. I’m still holding final judgement for the actual movie. I kept an open mind for Man Of Steel. Hopefully this won’t be as big a letdown. I want to be able to say “good Godzilla movie” not “good monster movie but still not Godzilla”. Or worse, “bad monster movie that isn’t Godzilla” or “bad Godzilla movie”. That would make it worse than Man Of Steel and one of my favorite fictions deserves better than that!
