The first story returns to the Quest boys in the past thanks to Questworld somehow becoming a time portal. Race and Benton are on the run from dinosaurs while Jonny and Hadji meet the aliens and give them their communicator, which immediately sends everyone home to see the cave paintings are gone, theorizing that the aliens were able to contact home and be rescued.

Okay, I suppose at the very least it had parts to fix their radio, but (and I’m as tired of writing this as you are reading it) Questworld still doesn’t work that way. Oh, they try to come up with some technobabble excuse for why it did that but I didn’t buy it. And it was short, another victim of the weird formatting of having part of a story each issue but having more than one story.

Our second story only takes place this issue, thank goodness. Our heroes want to use Questworld to piece together how an ancient city used to look. However, the simulation not only gets it wrong but awakens the spirits of people who used to live here. Luckily the team is able to forge a deal with the spirits to restore the temple in exchange for a virtual reality for the spirits to live in.

What they got right: The usual clothing issue aside this is a decent use of Questworld, with some issues I’ll bring up soon. I do like the idea and it’s executed well.

What they got wrong: Instead of the VR headsets they should be using they seem to be creating a gateway to walk through. Say it with me now: QUESTWORLD DOESN’T WORK THAT WAY! Did any of the writers at this point pay attention to the show at all? If you don’t understand how a feature in the show works, then don’t use it!

Not that it matters. There’s only one more issue but I can’t seem to find it in my collection. If I do I can finally finish the whole series. Otherwise, this is the last Real Adventures Of Jonny Quest Wednesday posting. Next week we’ll move on to a new series.

Recommendation: I can only really recommend the first story arc with the Rom. The rest never really felt like the show, but I can’t call most of them bad stories, either, so I wouldn’t warn you away. Still, only the first story was really good AND felt like it was a proper adaptation of the show.

Back to next week: I’m trying to decide between the original Voltron miniseries from the 80’s, Marvel’s Captain Planet or going to a longer franchise like the earlier Godzilla, Star Trek or Star Wars comics. I’ll come up with an answer by next Wednesday’s midnight posting.
