Batman 66 #10

Because of course he has a Batsnomobile..that sadly isn’t used in the story.

Our first story finds that frozen felon Mr. Freeze selling mini cooling field devices, which is part of his plan to flash freeze Gotham cold during a heat wave.

What they got right: We didn’t get a lot of backstory for Freeze and Batman’s history in the show, only that Batman was trying to stop him during a robbery and Freeze got hit with the chemicals that changed him, which was the origin until Batman: The Animated Series came along. Although they still snuck in a bit of the BTAS origin by having him stealing his equipment when they wouldn’t fund his cryogenics research, they didn’t try to shoehorn his wife in there.

What they got wrong: The cover promises a Batsnowmobile but instead we get rocket-powered bat-skis. Kind of disappointing.

In the second tale, Bruce is poisoned by a snake. Robin and Batgirl both try to solve the case, but our focus is solely on Batgirl as he finds one of King Tut’s former kidnap victims has decided she really is the reincarnation of Cleopatra.

What they got right: I’m not going to fact-check Parker on Cleopatra’s history but if he’s right then they snuck a history lesson in. The show’s writing staff would be pleased. It’s also nice to see Batgirl get some action again and it comes off better than the last Batgirl solo story in this series.

What they got wrong: However, I wouldn’t mind seeing how Robin and Batgirl worked together on this case without Batman’s help.

Recommendation: A great comic in the 60’s TV show mold. Worth getting if your a fan.
