Star Mage #4

EDITOR: Tom Waltz

Back on Earth, we see how things are with Tristian (accused of Darien’s disappearance and presumed murder) and Gemma, who is the only one who will hang out with him. Then something crashes in the ocean and one kid is led by a dog to avoid the tidal wave. This kid will apparently have an impact on things on his own. Meanwhile, Darien is doing very well in his studies, but the enemy is relentless and the king decides to give Darien a private tutor…who may or may not be one of the good guys.

What they got right: It’s nice to see what happened after Darien was taken from Earth (that part of the story takes place the same month and year as the publishing date, which was neat), even if it is to setup a new character tied into this story. We also get introduced to all the races involved with the alliance.

What they got wrong: I hope they’re not dropping Darien’s new friends. I like that he had a supporting cast and there was a good bond between them at the start of the issue when they fought off the attack. I want to see them form a solid team.

Recommendation: I’m still very much enjoying the comic and it’s still accessible to all ages, so it’s great for kids as well as adults. Pick this series up.
