Fury Of Firestorm #45
DC Comics (March, 1986)
“A Gathering Of Hate!” WRITER: Gerry Conway PENCILER: George Tuska INKER: Mike Gustovich COLORIST: Nansi Hoolahan LETTERER: Carrie Spiegle EDITOR: Janice Race
Ronnie and Felicity have a discussion about the lawsuit she’s filing against Firestorm while Martin is dragged into escorting the dean to the opera, and apparently she has a reputation with men. Both of these are put on hold, however, as Multiplex starts recruiting some of Firestorm’s old foes–namely Slipnot, the Hyena, and Mindboggler, a character that hasn’t appeared in a comic I own until now (although Bolt, an enemy of Blue Devil, decides he wants in).
What they got right: It’s too bad the discussion about superheroes was cut off. It was getting interesting, but the Hyena is the sister of Ronnie’s girlfriend. I like the idea of a “Firestorm Revenge Squad”, and Multiplex is the guy to start it.
What they got wrong: Cliff tries to con Ronnie’s dad that Ronnie’s on drugs. Why does this character continue to be in this comic? Flash Thompson had redeeming qualities and eventually stopped being a bully. Cliff is a one-note reverse trope that needs to go away!
Recommendation: I like where this is starting. Hopefully it ends on the same interesting note. And Cliff just ends.
