DC Vs Marvel #1

Looks more like they want to fight the person holding the comic.

The Ben Reilly Spider-Man is swinging through New York when he comes across a light coming out of an alley that teleports him to Gotham City. This is the first in a series of DC and Marvel characters being teleported to the other universe with the source appearing to be a cardboard box protected by a bum. Even duct tape can’t keep the light in. Only one other person sees this and decides he doesn’t want to get involved. He becomes important later, but what the bum is trying to stop happens…two beings have found each other, and this will be the cause of much trouble for the DC and Marvel heroes.

What they got right: Most of the hero/villain meetings compliment each other well. This was the first universal crossover, but (and you’ll see in later issues why it works) Joker recognizes Spider-Man from their meeting but since that was Peter and this is Ben Spidey doesn’t recognize him. The art is beautiful. It’s nice to see a 90s comic drawn and colored by GOOD artists for a change. I haven’t had enough of that.

What they got wrong: Nothing. This was a set-up to the biggest crossover of the time so the fact that the story is only teased is worth ignoring. It worked better here than a lot of 90s comics.

Recommendation: I didn’t give this the same kind of Scanning My Collection series because there are so many issues connected, including the follow-ups and Amalgams, but if this is as good a comic series as I remember you should already be getting the issues.
