Jackie Chan's Spartan X #3

I half-believe Jackie Chan could beat up a mushroom cloud.

Jackie Chan’s Spartan X: The Armour Of Heaven #3

While not intended to be the final issue, that’s what it ended up being. I’ll explain in the review.

Topps (August, 1997)

“Folklore”
WRITER/PENCILER/COVER ART: Michael Golden
CO-PLOTTER: Ric Meyers
INKER: Armando Gil
COLORS: Dan Brown & Digital Chameleon
LETTERER/LOGO DESIGN: Kenny Lopez
EDITOR: Renee Witterstaetter

Kozenloski uses the Mind Of God to take control of the former-Soviet nukes. It also just so happened he acquired the aid of the same cult Jackie dealt with before, so naturally everyone is out to kill him. However, Clytie leaves Crenshaw tied up for the police (although she later gets a report that he died) and Jackie manages to get the helmet away from the insane Russian. Jackie and Clytie go for the next piece, which is right nearby in an abandoned monastery…except there are voices all over the place. Our heroes run into Zenshi, who claims to want to help join their side now that her last boss, Crenshaw, isn’t able to employ her. Clyte stumbles upon writing on the walls about the Armour and the shield that Jackie and Zenshi come upon. As Zenshi grabs the shield, Clyte also sees a drawing of a Chimera and Jackie sees something just off panel.

And that’s all we learn. For some reason Topps didn’t finish the series. Image (I think since I can’t find anything about either comic besides the creative team) published the three issues and a fourth under the title Jackie Chan’s Spartan X: Hell-Bent Hero For Hire but I’m not even sure about that as I’ve never seen them. And it’s too bad. The story was good as was the artwork, really showcasing the kind of action you’d get from a Jackie Chan movie. Ric Meyer’s look into Chan’s past was also interesting. Sadly I may never know how this ends.

Under either title, Jackie Chan’s Spartan X is a great comic for Chan’s comic-loving fans and worth checking out. I just hope somebody someday finishes the story.
