In the cover story the boys barter game leads to a trip to India. There, Donald is used is a plot to take over a portion of a neighboring country, getting him made maharaja because of his small size. (Long story.) The boys have to do the barter thing again to rescue Donald from the angry kingdom. It’s a fun story and all with some great artwork, but it doesn’t invoke the Donald Duck cartoons I know so it didn’t work as well for me personally.
The two-page short is a bit closer. Donald decides to get back to nature and nature strikes back at him. I liked it.
If someone were to ask me if this series was worth getting after reading this Free Comic Book Day special, I’d say give it a look. While it didn’t quite work for me I do see why Banks’s work is so well received and he has earned it.
