Godzilla #16 (DH)

By now Godzilla is well-versed in dealing with space monsters.

As Godzilla sleeps the ground breaks beneath him and he ends up in prehistoric times. However, he has two threats from space to deal with, a dinosaur-eating monster seeking a challenge and the meteors that killed all of the dinosaurs. Godzilla wakes up back where he was, but with what appears to be a remnant of the space monster in his hand.

What they got right: Compared to the last time travel story this was much better. Like the Marvel story where Godzilla was sent to the past and teamed with Devil Dinosaur (which gives that story an edge of this one), it’s Godzilla in his true/former native habitat. There’s a monster to fight and it’s a good, albeit short, battle.

What they got wrong: I’m not a fan of the “it was all a dream but this thing could only come from the thing I dreamed about” ending. It might have been better had he found some lost world and somehow was forced to return to the surface with said lost world blocked off. Also, another nameless monster. And there’s a huge lack of G-Force even though they’re still listed in the cast page on the inside front cover.

Recommendation: While not the issue I would have gone out on, it’s still a pretty good story that’s worth checking out. We have one last Godzilla comic to review before we’re all caught up with my collection (although I have missed quite a few IDW comics by this point). It’s a crossover with a Dark Horse character I’ve reviewed in the past. But we aren’t quite done with giant monster just yet.
