DC/Marvel: All Access #2
DC Comics/Marvel (January, 1997)
“Two Sides Of The Same Coin” WRITER: Ron Marz PENCILER: Jackson Quice INKER: Joe Rubinstein COLORIST: Lee Loughridge SEPARATIONS: Digital Chameleon LETTERER: Bill Oakley ASSOCIATE EDITOR: Chris Duffy EDITOR: Mike Carlin
While training with Generation X Jubilee happens to see Axel out with Ming and screws up their date (putting Axel in even bigger trouble with his girlfriend). She offers to help him if she takes him to see Robin (Tim Drake at the time), hoping to continue their relationship somehow. Unfortunately, Tim was involved with Ariana at the time, and things got worse when Two-Face (who has a bad history with Robins) pops up. Robin gives Jubilee a crash-course in Batman-style tactics which they used to defeat the villains. Access (knocked out by Two-Face earlier) arrives to take Jubilee home, but then the Scorpion shows up.
What they got right: It was nice that Marz thought to revisit the Robin/Jubilee fling from the previous miniseries, and the two actually work well together against Two-Face.
What they got wrong: I’m not sure that Access needed to be knocked out. It really serves no purpose. Also, this is two Spider-Man villains in a row (as in Marvel villain offerings since Two-Face never met Spider-Man). Why not use one of the X-Foes to see how Jubilee and Robin work against one of her villains?
Recommendation: A good continuation of the storyline. This could end up being my favorite of the Access trilogy. It’s worth picking up for fans of both DC and Marvel.
