Iron Man #217

Somebody attacking a Stark business? Must be a day ending in “y”.

Every time I come back to this comic something different happens to Clytemestra. This time she died and Tony is throwing himself into his work. Also, he lost his space station. However, he’s ready to launch his new company, Stark Enterprises. Too bad someone gimmicked Rhodey’s new helicopter to become a kamikaze death machine with Rhodey still in it. While Iron Man tries to fight it without hurting his friend the machine comes back from each damage with a new attempt to destroy Stark’s new complex until Rhodey is able to pull out the right wire. It turns out this was a “gift” from Justin Hammer warning Tony not to become a threat to his business again like the old days.

What they got right: Tony has a new business with his name on it, and of course it’s immediately attacked on opening day. Sounds about right.

What they got wrong: I liked the idea of the Chameleon system. Why take it out? Also Tony rents the entire Disneyland and keeps out the crowds just to woo a reporter into becoming his new PR person? Our hero, ladies and gentlemen! 😛

Recommendation: Not every Iron Man story needs to be part of some long story arc. It’s a good one-issue story that brings Stark back into big business. It’s worth picking up.
