A fan is someone who enjoys a certain performer, series, or other production. In theory, a fandom is a collection of fans who build a community of fellow fans and enjoy fascinating discussions about said production and maybe even connect it to real life. In actuality fandoms tend to be these small groups who like to feel superior to other groups when it comes to that production and are willing to cull their ranks rather than invite new people to enjoy the same things they do. Don’t believe me? Cracked contributor Tom Reimann looked at three fandoms–comics, gaming (RPG and video), and independent music–and show they’re just as elitist as any other social class. Especially if you have breasts that you’re not flashing for all the guys to see.
