If you don’t read my daily comic reviews, Gamera: Guardian Of The Universe is the first chapter of a darker, un-kid-friendly reboot of the 60s Gamera movies. Apparently even Japan was a victim of the 90s. Dark Horse had the license for this, oddly the same time they had Godzilla. Sadly, there was never a team-up/versus story. Gamera would have the advantage…a teenage girl.

“Thunder” round 9
The Battlefield: Gamera #2 (Dark Horse; September, 1996)
The Promoters: Dave Chipps (writer), Mozart Couto (penciler), Mike Sellers (inker), Art Knight (colorist), and Clem Robins (letterer)
Gamera didn’t go to South America on vacation. A mad scientist is trying to create the Gyaos monsters again, and Gamer is there. Luckily so is Asagi, the teen girl who has a amulet that psychically links her to Gamera.
Gamera knows when to listen to a good idea.
The next page, with Gyaos slowly roasting, isn’t necessarily graphic, but too graphic for BW. Trust me, he’s cooked but good.
