Crusher Joe #4
Ironcat (April, 1999)
“The Destiny Of Pandora II” part 2 ORIGINAL CREATOR: Haruka Takachiho ARTIST: Fujihiko Hosano TRANSLATOR: Sachiko Uchida ART TOUCH-UP: Steve Bennett COPY EDITOR: Mark Hofman EDITOR: Kevin BennettThere were no credits in the comic itself, but I’m assuming it’s the same as last issue.
The Crushers make contact with Elina and then save her from the Space-Free Battle Line. Unfortunately, when Joe stops Elina’s attempt to kill herself later that night the terrorists are there to kidnap them. They torture Joe for the information on Pandora II but when the leader’s top guy starts slapping her around. Elina lets out a burst of energy that blows the whole block to bits. She and Joe are rescued by the others, who found the scientist’s notes and think they know where Pandora II is.
What they got wrong: Elina’s strange power is interesting in light of the experiment her father was working on, a method permanently drawing energy from another dimension or something. That brings me to…
What they got wrong: This dialog may have the words translated but that doesn’t help when it doesn’t make sense. The description of “Minus-energy” is probably the best example of this failing.
Other notes: I don’t have issue #5 but I’ll try to find the information on this issue for tomorrow’s review as I believe it will have the final chapter of this story, if the last story arc is any indication.
Recommendation: Dialog issues aside, this is still a good comic. Give it a look.
