Crusher Joe #6

Hey Dongo, this isn’t a nude beach. Naughty robot.

Crusher Joe #6

FINAL ISSUE

Ironcat (June, 1999)

First, an update. I could find no information about the events of the previous issue, the one I’m missing. So not only do I not know how the last story ended I don’t know how this one began, nor can I confirm the same team worked on this story. With that we go to the review, although I can follow what I need to at least.

From what I can tell, the Crushers are escorting a chairman to a meeting with a president. However, it turns out that the chairman once caused an accident to make an opening to get more power on his planet by wiping out the small military. Only the president turns out to be the time-displaced survivor of that accident looking to get revenge on the chairman. He’s obsessed with his vengeance and even kills his former friend, who had sought the Crushers’ help. In the end the president is killed and the chairman under investigation. And so the Crushers continue on.

What they got right: Without knowing the whole story it’s hard to judge, but I was able to figure out what was going on (even if it’s hard to explain in summary).

What they got wrong: So the explosion didn’t somehow propel the president into the past to become the president but his rage? I’m not sure how that works. And having the president not stop the explosion should have been about not causing a paradox (or at least someone should have brought that up since the reason was to show how obsessed the man had become with getting his revenge).

Recommendation: While I haven’t seen the OAV or the original novels (that one for obvious reasons) but I have seen the movie and read these comics and I rather enjoy them. I recommend them both to sci-fi fans who like their stories on the fun side.
