Autobase Earth. A safe haven, far from the eyes and reach of Commander Jhiaxus and his second generation Transformer army. Not!” Two caption boxes. It took two caption boxes to block me from reading this comic for hours. I don’t know if that tells you anything about my mind even though I like the first Wayne’s World movie (haven’t seen the second and I’m not into having either in my media library but I like the first movie well enough) but this was so stupid I had to pull away from it. Later Grimlock has a bandana and “Big Grim” on his shoulder for one panel for no good reason. Tokar was really not paying attention this issue. Although to be fair this issue also contains the greatest Optimus Prime/Megatron conversation in history.

MEGATRON: “Why? That’s what they all asked me. Why him… why Starscream? Why, of all Decepticons, did I decide to revitalize the one whose record of deceit and betrayal is legend? Because I’m an idiot, that’s why!”

OPTIMUS: “While I’m tempted to record that last statement for posterity…”

Hey, I give credit where it’s due. It’s also the first official appearance of the word “combiner” for robots that combine, although it was two Transformers making fun of Cybertronians being cut in half by a trap. But that’s enough praise. Back to the complaints!

The Cybertronians continue their attack on Autobase, as that terrible first quote stated, while Starscream leads them to Warworld’s front door. We’ll get back to Starscream’s master plan in a moment. Realizing that Warworld is their best bet, Megatron to attack the Cybertronians and Optimus to try and convince Jhiaxus that they need to unite against the Swarm (I swear, Furman’s Optimus will do the dumbest things possible to unite factions when there are perfectly intelligent ways to at least temporarily form alliances), who by the way attack another Cybertronian ship and decides to follow the order in the computer to go to Earth, but someone has already taken it over…Starscream, who has used the Matrix to merge with Warworld and has decided to try that Underbase trick again.

Yep, Starscream is doing the same trick again, and I assure you he was a bigger threat using Underbase energy than merging with Warworld. This whole issue is death and destruction, something Furman seems to be a master at writing, and that’s not what I read comic for. Still, it was the in-thing in the 90s so Furman must have been right at home. There’s also the start of this subplot that Razorclaw thinks one of the Rotor Force, Manta Ray, is getting too friendly with the Autobots…you know, despite the fact that they are allies in a war that YOU ARE STILL IN THE MIDDLE OF A BATTLE OF! This subplot is pointless, especially since we already have two subplots coming together. Furman needs to check into subplot addiction.

At least this is almost over. I really won’t miss this series.
