The Star Wars prequels naturally focused on Anakin, but the same is true for most episodes of the recently The Clone Wars cartoon. If he wasn’t there then it was all about Padme, Obi-Wan, Yoda, R2 & 3PO and new character Ahsoka. (Who I just heard is coming back in the second season of the new show, Star Wars Rebels. I really want to see what happens when she comes up against Darth Vader, who will also be making an appearance, and if that’s not James Earl Jones, it’s that guy from the games who is darn close.) However, the previous cartoon, simply Clone Wars, was different. The microseries was produced by Genndy Tartakovsky, who is known to focus on action and yet still sneak in character development. He also wasn’t afraid to leave the movie cast behind and let some of the lesser-known Jedi have a little time. And the comic at the time followed suit.

The planet Nadiem, Threadneedle Canyon. Jedi Padawan Barriss Offee is planing how to deal with the coming group of Seperatist battle droids headed their way.

"Remember to press X when you're near a wall."

“Remember to press X when you’re near a wall.”

A backup plan is a good thing, because Genndy’s version of General Grevious is a lot smarter and less ego-driven.

Also, the droids are less comic relief in this version.

And it looks like they might have won.

"Who knew droids had such stinky feet?"

“Who knew droids had such stinky feet?”

So how’s the battle going for her teacher, Master Luminara?

"Don't forget to buy both toys."

“Don’t forget to buy both toys.”

But even the smarter versions of the droids don’t think to look behind them.

This is why you always check to make sure your enemy is dead.

And when the droids try to retreat, our Padawan has one more surprise in store.

Maybe that's why the ones in the second series were so dumb. All the good ones were smashed early.

Well, they still made the same mess Anakin did anyway.
