Flash 2014 TV logo

Where the DC movies seem to be failing the shows (except for Gotham) appear to be getting things right by not being afraid of their roots. This includes the Vertigo series Constantine (although NBC is canceling it), the CW-aired Arrow, The Flash, and I, Zombie (never got into Green Arrow and you don’t expect me to watch a zombie series, right?) and the trailer for the CBS Supergirl series. The CW DCU appears to also want to expand, even making an animated series based on Vixen that I haven’t heard about since it was announced, while this trailer shows off their own pseudo-Justice League in Legends Of Tomorrow, spinning off of Arrow and The Flash.

Maybe I need to check Arrow out. While certain characters (Firestorm and The Atom–I’ve never heard of White Canary) are missing their iconic costumes (of course we already knew that) it isn’t trying to be seriously grounded in a cynical reality. Like the two shows it comes from it isn’t afraid to not take itself too seriously and add some fun moments to the drama. THIS is how you make a story like this feel like the real world. The series will debut in 2016, but while there are questions about whether or not both halves of Firestorm will show up, I wonder what the Flash is doing in the episode beyond the part where he and (Green) Arrow are talking to the team? Is he in this episode and will be in two series? Is The Flash ending? Or is he just part of this episode as a way of making it official? We’ll know more as…time…goes on.
