Star Wars Droids: The Adventures Of R2-D2 & C-3PO appears to no longer be canon despite it being treated as such for years. I don’t know how much involvement Lucasfilm had but Disneyfilm appears to only treat The Clone Wars and the current Rebels series as the only cartoons in canon. This disappoints me but I will always consider the cartoon canon. Star adapted the cartoon to comic form and allowed further adventures. Dark Horse would later do their own Droids stories but the look now matched the movies, which is fine.

In tonight’s entry into the Friday Night Fights tournament we get to see something even the cartoon never really gave us. There have been times when we’ve seen C-3PO accidentally stop a bad guy. R2 is usually the action hero. However, the comic gives us Threepio kicking butt and I love this comic for that moment alone.

“Wildcat” round 7

The Battlefield: Droids #2 (Star Comics/Marvel; June, 1986) “The Ultimate Weapon”

The Promoters: Dave Manak (writer), John Romita (penciler), Al Williamson & Jon D’Agostino (inkers), George Roussos (colorist), and Grace Kremer (letterer)

Needing to repair R2, our Droid heroes went to a repair station, and made friends with the kid pilots (even the cartoon wouldn’t have kid pilots…who do they think they are, Anakin Skywalker?). Then their temporary masters are captured by mob son Tig Fromm and his snarky bodyguard, Vlix. With R2 down, Threepio must stop these bad guys alone. Lucky for him the laser-resistant shell of an old Guardian droid is available, so Threepio suits up for battle!

Super Threepio PUNCH!

Super Threepio PUNCH!

Look at our little protocol droid talking smack and kicking butt. But even See-Threepio: Badass needs some help from his friends.

Could have been worse. Could have been carbonite.

And just to prove that Threepio is indeed the hero of the fight…

I think we have the plot if they give C-3PO his own movie.

Stand aside, Tony Stark. There’s a new armored hero in town!

Wait, are we really so caught up in Star Wars news that we’re wondering about C-3PO’s ARM in The Force Awakens? Is it that slow a newsday or are the press now trying to scour everything they can to find any tidbit about the movie? What did they think when we saw his head on a Battle Droid for Attack Of The Clones?
