I don’t have Dark Horse’s first volume…but I want to.
Dark Horse (April, 1995)
“Rebellion” part 1 WRITER: Ryder Windham ARTIST: Ian Gibson COLORIST: Perry McNamee COVER ART: Kilian Plunkett LETTERER: Ellie DeVille BOOK DESIGN: Scott Tice EDITOR: Peet Janes
R2D2 and C-3PO have been deputized by Security Droid Unit Zed to bring in Olag (the crime boss from the Special). Olag is seeking refuge with another crime boss, but Zed manages to shoot him down. But on the ground Olag’s bodyguard, Xob, manages to shoot Zed before being stunned by Zed. With his arm damaged and gyroscopic systems off-balance, Zed sends the Droids to nab him. Thanks to a large slug person falling on Olag, he’s captured and Zed rejoins our heroes just as Olag’s former pilot, Forno arrives to inform everyone that the other crime boss was crushed when Olag’s ship crashed into the landing dock…and then shoots See Threepio!
What they got right: It’s interesting to see an old enemy return and life has gone on since their last encounter with Olag and Forno. I just like seeing R2 and 3PO having more adventures.
What they got wrong: But why would a security droid deputize a protocol droid and a maintenance droid to go after a crime boss? This is never explained in this issue, the first of a new volume, so if this was mentioned in a comic I don’t own it doesn’t help me here. Is it because they met him before? They were with him at most a few hours and it was a chase to find IG-88, who was forcing R2 to help him. I don’t think they had time to learn anything useful.
Recommendation: This is a good start to this storyline and from what I remember you want to pick this up.
