Having survived the events of the Shadows Of The Empire novel and comic miniseries, Guri (Xizor’s human replica assassin droid) has been searching for someone who can reprogram her to forget the assassin programming and give her a fresh start. She finds Massad Thrumble, a former droid maker for the Empire, but without “Doc” (special medical/surgeon droid A-OIC) his hands are no longer able to perform the intricate procedure. He has been kidnapped by the Pikkel sisters, twin mercenaries in the employ of Spinda Caveel. While Guri is determined to rescue Doc, another Falleen (Xizor’s race), Azool, is looking for her and sends the bounty hunter Kar Yang and his droid aid, Lintu, to find her.
What they got right: I love a good redemption story. Guri may no longer be canon but I still like her. The story opens with her taking out a Star Destroyer with a group of proton missiles. What’s not to like? I also want a model or small version of her ship. It’s simple but good, something I wouldn’t mind having if I owned a starship.
What they got wrong: While I also like the design for Kar Yang’s ship, the bird motif is something better suited to Star Trek than Star Wars.
Recommendation: This miniseries is off to a good start. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next.
