Chapter by Chapter features me reading one chapter of the selected book at the time and reviewing it as if I were reviewing an episode of a TV show or an issue of a comic. There will be spoilers if you haven’t read to the point I have, and if you’ve read further I ask that you don’t spoil anything further into the book. Think of it as read-along book club.

So Alec and the Black are back together and all is right with the world…except they still have to find the Captain. He’s a jerk but not necessarily evil, and he’s scared to death of a horse god that may or may not exist. And we may or may not find out if he does this chapter.

Chapter 16: Kovi Strikes

This was a short chapter, that ends with the Captain dead! Even then there is the mystery of how he died. Either he somehow self-inflicted his head being beat in (Alec surmises a tree) or Kovi took his revenge. (It could also be someone else killed him, but there are no suspects this far into the story so that would a lame cheat.) And that’s all that happened. I would have combined it with the next chapter but it’s, for this book anyway, rather long. So we’ll have to wait until our next meeting to find out what happened. Although the title does represent how some of the chapter titles in this book actually turned out.
